Post: Army of me
Het nummer ‘Army of me’ heeft Björk geschreven (samen met Graham Massey) voor haar broer die op dat moment een nogal destructieve manier van leven er op na hield. Hij was in een soort van coma, aldus Björk. Geen letterlijke coma, maar hij leefde ook niet echt.
Björk zelf over het nummer:
“It’s a song for the movie “Tank Girl”, but it is actually about my brother. He is pretty lazy and likes things like food, sex, sleep – very basic needs. It’s just that he does it more than others.
Then he started smoking, well, not cigarettes. It felt as if he was in a coma. He just sat on his butt complaining, “the worlds stinks, I can’t get a job, there are no good albums to buy and even if I wanted to buy them, I don’t have any money to buy them with. Blah blah blah.”
Self-pity from morning to night, which really pisses me off. You can stand a whining brother to a limit, but for ten years, from he was 14 to that he turned 24. I simply had enough. That’s it. Stand on your own legs, get a job, get a life. And if you complain once more, you’ll met an “Army Of Me”.
I am not going to save you anymore, your rescue squad is too exhausted. That’s what the song is about.”
Het nummer is uitgebracht in april 1995 als de eerste single van haar tweede album ‘Post’. Dit nummer is echter al in 1992 geschreven, tijdens de eerste opnames van het album Debut. Dit nummer werd dus ook al gespeeld tijdens haar Debut tour, toen werd het soms nog ‘if you complain once more’ genoemd.
Voor de clip heeft zij samen gewerkt met Michel Gondry (waar ze ook mee samen werkte voor Human Behaviour).

Het nummer scoorde goed, en ze heeft dit nummer toen samen met Skunk Anansie live gespeeld in Top of the Pops in Engeland. Persoonlijk vind ik Skunk anansie vaak leuk, maar tijdens dit nummer vind ik haar stem er niet bij passen, maar ik wil jullie deze versie niet onthouden.
